Basketball Recap: Kaila Aston Key Part of a Team Effort in Knights Win

Gilbert Christian won the last time they faced Walden Grove and things went their way on Saturday too. The Gilbert Christian Knights came out on top against the Walden Grove Red Wolves by a score of 47-34. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Gilbert Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaila Aston out in front who went 9 of 18 on her way to 20 points along with five boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Aston a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Hansen, who posted five points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Gilbert Christian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for Walden Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilbert Christian will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Benjamin Franklin at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Walden Grove will take on Empire in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Walden Grove is facing Empire at the right time seeing as Empire is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
