After five games on the road, La Joya Community is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Canyon View Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Joya Community will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while Canyon View is ranked 24th).
Last Saturday, La Joya Community was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Washington.
Makuach Makuei put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. He scored a full 33.3% of La Joya Community's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Josiah Hale was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Canyon View scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 129-32 win over Lake Havasu at home. Considering Canyon View has won five contests by more than 21 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
La Joya Community's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-10. As for Canyon View, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
La Joya Community was dealt a bruising 111-49 defeat at the hands of Canyon View when the teams last played back in February. Thankfully for La Joya Community, Cohen Aldridge (who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
