Elizabeth is 2-7 against Falcon since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Elizabeth Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Falcon Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Elizabeth focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday.
After soaring to a 47-point win in their last game, Elizabeth came back down to earth on Thursday. They fell just short of Sierra by a score of 45-43. While losing is never fun, Elizabeth can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while Sierra is ranked 102nd).
The losing side was boosted by Cooper Connelley, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Diessen Lindsay was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, Elizabeth were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. This was only their 13th loss (out of 17 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Falcon has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 75-74 to Harrison. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Elizabeth dropped their record down to 4-17 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Falcon, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-6 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Elizabeth, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 75-59 loss to Falcon when the teams last played back in January. Can Elizabeth avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
