The Madison Trojans came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Trinity Leadership 61-59. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Madison has posted yet this season.
Trinity Leadership's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Lockwood, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Lockwood pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Maiden, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Trinity Leadership smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Madison is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. As for Trinity Leadership, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Madison will take on A Plus Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. A Plus Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Trinity Leadership won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Inspired Vision at 11:00 a.m. on January 13th. Inspired Vision will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1460th, while Trinity Leadership is ranked 572nd).
