Highland recap October 8, 2013
Lake City added to the longest winning streak in Highland this week by beating McBain, 46-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Trojans.
Beal City took down Pinconning 74-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Evart's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jacob Fortune threw for 247 and 4 touchdowns and Jacob Hopkins had 156 yards receiving. On the ground Derek Bowen contributed 83 yards. Robbie Tapling helped Evart's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 82 yards.
He went 11-21 with 3 interceptions.
Bowen was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 83 yards as the Wildcats bested Pine River Area. Teammate Jamin Drake added to the ground attack by rushing for 81 yards.
Evart's Fortune and Hopkins led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Fortune has thrown for 1,190 yards this season, while Hopkins, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 36 catches for 754 yards. The Ramblers' Zach Stephan leads the league in rushing yards with 806.
The top two teams in Highland will face off this week when first place Lake City takes on second place Beal City.
There should be lots of points scored when McBain and Patrick Craven's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Chad Grundy's team comes in having scored 164 this season, while the Wildcats have scored 187. The Ramblers scored 0 points last week as they fell to Lake City.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Tim Peterson's team takes on the Aggies. The Trojans have allowed 6 points this season, while Beal City has given up 27.
Evart and the Bucks played the most contested game in the league this week, with Evart eventually emerging with a 33-27 victory. Fortune ran for 33 yards in the win.
