The team relied heavily on David Valarde, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. Lordsburg is undefeated when Valarde posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Platz, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lordsburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Mesilla Valley Christian School got the win against Mescalero Apache on Saturday by a conclusive 18-2.
Weston Marr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Davis Coyle was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Jude Herrera, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Mesilla Valley Christian School's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Lordsburg, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lordsburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Mesilla Valley Christian School struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
