The Seminole Ridge Hawks will take on the Dwyer Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Seminole Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Seminole Ridge is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Everything went their way against Martin County as they made off with a 9-0 win. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Zarah Lee was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lee was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haven Berryhill, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Ary Nord was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Seminole Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Dwyer fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Jupiter on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 7-6. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 18, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Like Seminole Ridge, Dwyer also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddy Lowdermilk. She tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Lowdermilk a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.
In other batting news, Fatima Masri and Sierra Cook stepped up to the plate in a big way. Masri fired off four doubles and three RBI while going 5-for-6, while Cook went 2-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
Seminole Ridge's record now sits at 14-7. As for Dwyer, they now have a losing record of 11-12.
Seminole Ridge's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Dwyer, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Seminole Ridge continue to outrun the ball?
Seminole Ridge came up short against Dwyer in their previous meeting back in February, falling 11-6. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
