South Plainfield is 8-1 against Kennedy Memorial since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, South Plainfield was fully in charge, breezing past South River 35-8. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won three in a row.
Christian Brown was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 53 yards and a pair of TDs.
South Plainfield's run defense was locked in: South River could only muster 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Dylan Oller for the heroic effort on defense: he. South Plainfield didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.7.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for South Plainfield, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Dominic Massaro, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Memorial got themselves on the board against Middlesex on Friday, but Middlesex never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bluejays 42-0. The Mustangs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Kennedy Memorial had a senior duo take command as Richie Trotman threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes and Fiheem Howell rushed for 101 yards and a pair of scores. Howell's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Kennedy Memorial's leading receiver Grant Lorentzen was Trotman's top target yet again, picking up 115 receiving yards and one TD.
One reason for the win was Kennedy Memorial's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Abdul Wahab was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. The game marked his first with multiple sacks this season.
The win got South Plainfield back to even at 4-4. As for Kennedy Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
South Plainfield beat Kennedy Memorial 21-14 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
