The Salpointe Catholic Lancers had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They came out on top against Pueblo by a score of 56-49. Given Salpointe Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Warriors are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Logan Martinez was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with six rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Smith, who scored nine points.
When it comes to explaining why Pueblo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jorge Franco. Despite the final result, he scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was David Hernandez, who scored 11 points.
Salpointe Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. As for Pueblo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-20.
Salpointe Catholic will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Sahuaro is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road. As for Pueblo, they will square off against the Caballeros at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Flowing Wells has now lost 20 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 22.
