Softball Recap: St. Martin Has No Trouble Against Ocean Springs

St. Martin hadn't done well against Ocean Springs recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The St. Martin Yellow Jackets put the hurt on the Ocean Springs Greyhounds with a sharp 15-4 win. The Yellow Jackets not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 21st.

Miranda Ladnier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned runs off ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kiyara Lee was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Shoemaker, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

St. Martin hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive matchups.

St. Martin is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. Ocean Springs moved to 8-8 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, St. Martin will challenge Gautier at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Gautier has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something St. Martin will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ocean Springs, they will take on Satsuma in a tournament on Friday.
