Basketball Recap: Wakefield Comes Up Short

Wakefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 59-49 to the Rolesville Rams. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 69-67 last Wednesday.

Despite the defeat, Wakefield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Avery Hicks almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Hicks has posted since back in December of 2024. Amir Lewis also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Even though they lost, Wakefield was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rolesville only racked up nine assists.

Leading Rolesville to victory were Anthony Roberts, Jr and Marquis Bryant. Roberts, Jr dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards, while Bryant went 6 for 10 on his way to 17 points. Roberts, Jr has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last five times he's played. Cannon Marshall was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Wakefield's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Rolesville, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wakefield will welcome Millbrook at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Millbrook's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests. As for Rolesville, they will be playing at home against Knightdale at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Rolesville comes in on four and Knightdale on three.
