Johnson is 0-3 against Austin since November of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Johnson Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Austin Maroons at 7:00 p.m. Johnson will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Johnson earned a 60-48 victory over Dripping Springs. Given Johnson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 465th, while Dripping Springs is ranked 1233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Austin's 30-4 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell just short of Bowie by a score of 42-39. Austin has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Austin's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jill Shirk, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds, and Kemah Shaw who scored 18 points. The contest was Shirk's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
Johnson pushed their record up to 8-6 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Austin, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
Johnson was dealt a bruising 61-17 defeat at the hands of Austin in their previous meeting back in January. Can Johnson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
