South Pontotoc is 8-0 against Bruce since November of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The South Pontotoc Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Bruce Trojans at 6:00 p.m. South Pontotoc will be strutting in after a win while Bruce will be coming in after a loss.
Last Tuesday, South Pontotoc didn't have too much trouble with Baldwyn at home as they won 43-29. Given South Pontotoc's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Baldwyn is ranked 172nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 54-18, which was the final score in Bruce's tilt against Calhoun City on Friday. Bruce was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-9.
Laken Corbitt was Bruce's leading scorer, having posted six points.
A'toria Knox held things down on the boards with six rebounds.
South Pontotoc's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Bruce, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Everything came up roses for South Pontotoc against Bruce when the teams last played back in November as the team secured a 74-22 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Pontotoc since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
