The Miramonte Matadors will face off against the Concord Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Miramonte earned a 14-11 victory over Berean Christian. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Matadors.
The team relied heavily on Sammy Hardy, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Avery Haynes, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Concord made easy work of Campolindo on Thursday and carried off an 18-4 win. Considering the Bears have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kendal Schaefer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Shay Caban was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, five runs, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played. Anna Marie Del Rosario was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Concord always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Concord now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Miramonte, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Miramonte has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've averaged .511. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Miramonte was able to grind out a solid win over Concord in their previous meeting back in April, winning 5-0. Do the Matadors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
