CYPRESS, Calif. -
Pacifica (Garden Grove, Calif.) kept up a steady attack all game long to upset Cypress (Calif.), 38-8, on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Nick Howard to
Nick Seto in the first quarter, the Mariners led 17-0 at the half.
Pacifica expanded its lead to 24 points entering the fourth quarter. PHS scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by
Michael Gehres.
The final score was a stunner, as the Garden Grove school was ranked No. 426 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, far below the Centurions' spot at No. 365.
Cypress' Jake Brito played well. The senior running back ran for one touchdown.
Seto played well for the Mariners in the victory. The senior wide receiver caught two touchdowns.
CHS's lone touchdown came on a 30-yard run by Brito in the fourth quarter.
Pacifica came in allowing an average of 20.5 points per game this season.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Centurions took, 49-10.
The win was a nice bounce back for PHS, which lost to Valencia last week, 16-6.
Cypress (4-5) goes up against Valencia in a Empire game matchup next week, while Pacifica (5-4) locks horns with Yorba Linda also in a Empire game.
