The Millbrook Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 45-38 to Athens Drive. Millbrook was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Athens Drive apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
Millbrook's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaliyah Graham, who scored eight points along with four steals. Graham has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Grace Bardeen was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Athens Drive's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Quincie Toran, who scored 18 points. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Toran has scored at least 25% of Athens Drive's points. Another player making a difference was Makenzie Kelly, who scored five points along with seven assists and three steals.
Millbrook has fallen quite a ways from their 20-8 record last season and are now at 1-10. As for Athens Drive, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Millbrook and Southern Durham will round out the year against one another at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at. Southern Durham is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. Athens Drive will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Southeast Alamance at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Southeast Alamance's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Athens Drive has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
