Basketball Recap: Shenandoah Falls Despite Big Games from Emily Moore and Brenna Leach

If Shenandoah was feeling good fresh off their 69-48 takedown of Caldwell last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Shenandoah Zeps took a 67-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the River Pilots on Monday. The Zeps were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pilots earlier this season, when they won 37-34.

Despite the defeat, Shenandoah had strong showings from Brenna Leach, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 boards, and Emily Moore, who posted 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Moore's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Binkiewicz, who put up two points and six assists.

Even though they lost, Shenandoah smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Shenandoah's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for River, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shenandoah will venture away from home to square off against Linsly at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Shenandoah is facing Linsly at the right time seeing as Linsly is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for River, they will head out on the road to face off against Monroe Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Monroe Central will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something River surely won't give up without a fight.
