Two dominant guards in Ja?Von Motta and Ro'Mello Pegues are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Overhills Jaguars will be playing at home against the Triton Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Triton better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Overhills really get things going. Overhills put the hurt on Harnett Central with a sharp 64-44 victory on Tuesday. The Jaguars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.
Deshaun Barton had an outrageously good game as he went 8 for 14 on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cj Roland, who posted nine points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.
Overhills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Triton came up short against Pine Forest on Tuesday and fell 69-61.
Overhills will need focus on slowing down Jamaury Taylor, one of several Triton players who made an impact when they last played. He had 13 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Demarbiaz Devane, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds.
Overhills pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Triton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Overhills has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 32.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Triton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Overhills against Triton when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured an 82-52 victory. Does Overhills have another victory up their sleeve, or will Triton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
