Basketball Recap: Spencer Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Spencer won the last time they faced Shaw and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Spencer Greenwave came out on top against the Shaw Raiders by a score of 56-49. Given the Greenwave's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Raiders are ranked 278th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Spencer had a senior duo take command as Ben Watson posted 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists and Kerry Griffin put up 17 points and four steals. The contest was Griffin's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tyshaun Elzie, who had seven points and five rebounds.

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was James Wilson, who earned five points.

Spencer's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Shaw, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Spencer has already played their next matchup, an 84-58 defeat against Carver on the 31st. As for Shaw, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-41 victory against Jordan on the 29th.
