If the MaxPreps national rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Overton. They and Giltner go head to head on Thursday at 6:00 PM in their first playoff contest of the year. Giltner will need to watch out since Overton have now posted big point totals in their last six contests.
Overton put the finishing touches on their 7th blowout victory of the season last Friday. They were fully in charge, breezing past Elwood 58-20. No one put up better numbers for Overton than junior Ryan Lauby, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. Lauby has been a consistent playmaker for Overton as this was the 6th good game in a row from him.
Meanwhile, Giltner might have drawn first blood against Kenesaw, but it was Kenesaw who got the last laugh. Giltner were dealt a punishing 22-82 defeat at the hands of Kenesaw. Giltner were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 14-42.
Overton's victory lifted them to 7-1 while Giltner's loss dropped them down to 4-4. The Overton defense got after the quarterback against Elwood to the tune of six sacks, so Giltner's offensive line better have put in some good practice this past week in preparation for the matchup.
