Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Liberty County). They put the hurt on the Blountstown Tigers with a sharp 14-3 victory on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Gavin Jerkins was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Liberty County is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-11 otherwise. Jerkins was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charlie Sanders, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayson Evans, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Liberty County's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-12. As for Blountstown, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 9-15 record.
