Rutherford extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 4-17. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Destin Sharks. That's two games in a row now that the Rams have lost by just one run.
Tyler Harry was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Douglas Maldonado Romero was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
As for Destin, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-6. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
On Destin's side, Bryson Perkins was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Perkins has posted since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Palmer Robbins, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Caleb Wright, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coming up, Rutherford is taking a road trip to challenge Blountstown at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Destin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against L.E.A.D. Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The N/A have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.83 runs per game on average), something the Sharks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
