Limestone and Metamora are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Rockets are taking a road trip to square off against the Redbirds at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Limestone not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 31st (when they won 14-4). They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over Rock Island.
Alec Williams and Evan Daxenbichler did most of the damage at the plate: Williams got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Daxenbichler went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI Daxenbichler has posted since back in March. Joe Shields was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs and one stolen base.
Limestone was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Metamora waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Rockets. The game was the first time the Redbirds have beaten the Rockets on their field since April 11, 2022.
Metamora's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cole Smith, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base. Another was Jacob Crotz, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
Limestone's win bumped their record up to 15-12. As for Metamora, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Limestone has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Metamora struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Limestone came up short against Metamora when the teams last played on Monday, falling 6-3. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
