Basketball Recap: Miller Grove Takes a Loss

Miller Grove lost against Columbia last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Miller Grove Wolverines were dealt a 55-23 defeat at the hands of the Columbia Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while the Eagles are ranked 112th).

Loss or not, Miller Grove got some senior leadership from Arieyona Christion and Kamiya Moore. Christion posted two points along with ten boards and five steals, while Moore scored 11 points. Christion has become a key player for Miller Grove: the team is 9-3 when she posts at least five steals, but 4-6 otherwise.

Even though they lost, Miller Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kerserlin Anderson, who went 7-for-14 on her way to 17 points and five steals. That's the most points Anderson has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Campbell, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

Miller Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Columbia, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season.

Miller Grove has already played their next contest, a 59-41 loss against Franklin County on the 18th. As for Columbia, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-26 victory against Burke County on the 19th.
