Cordia had lost seven games straight , but after bumping their record up to 2-14 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Mountain Mission Challengers 15-5. The Lions' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Riley Melton was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cordia got a massive performance out of Bryson Perkins, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Perkins is becoming a predictor of the Lions' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 0-13 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Raymond Rose, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Cordia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
As for Mountain Mission, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly ten runs.

Looking ahead, Cordia will take on Owsley County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
