Maiden has gone a perfect 10-0 against Newton-Conover recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Blue Devils will challenge the Red Devils at 7:30 p.m.
Maiden had taken East Lincoln down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The contest between the Blue Devils and the Mustangs didn't end well, with the Blue Devils falling 35-21.
Despite the defeat, Maiden had strong showings from Shannon Wingate, who rushed for 109 yards, and Javien Seagle, who picked up 68 receiving yards and one touchdown. Seagle got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 56 yards.
Meanwhile, Newton-Conover entered their tilt with Foard on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 35-14 win. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won five matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.
Newton-Conover's win came from a few key players Maiden will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Timothy Mehalic, who picked up 115 receiving yards and a pair of scores. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two). Newton-Conover also got a significant boost from Jeremiah Pope, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 118 yards.
Newton-Conover was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 271 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 169 rushing yards in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.
Maiden's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3. As for Newton-Conover, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Maiden has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Newton-Conover struggles in that department as they've been averaging 273.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Maiden against Newton-Conover in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 48-14 win. In that game, the Blue Devils amassed a halftime lead of 27-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
