On Friday, the Durango Trailblazers faced the Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon Pirate in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Durango breezed by Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon on the road to the tune of 66-15. The victory was just what Durango needed coming off of a 60-19 defeat in their prior matchup.
Durango was led to victory by Gabby Bryant and Amia McKinney. Bryant scored 12 points along with 3 steals, while McKinney scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Amarie Riley, who scored 10 points.
Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jiselle Garin, who scored 6 points. Garin scored a full 40% of Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The win got Durango back to even at 1-1. As for Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Durango is on the road again on Saturday and play against Sports Leadership & Management at 8:00 a.m. on November 25th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Sports Leadership & Management is ranked 15th, while Durango is ranked 13th). As for Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, they will square off against Palo Verde at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
