The MACCRAY Wolverines are taking a road trip to challenge the Canby Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: MACCRAY has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Canby will arrive with three straight victories.
MACCRAY fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Dawson-Boyd on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blackjacks by a score of 4-3.

Xavier Noble made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of MACCRAY's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 4-8 when he doesn't).
Meanwhile, Canby gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past Yellow Medicine East 4-3. The game was the first time the Lancers have beaten the Sting on their field since April 20, 2017.
Jace Rangaard made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That run marked the first that he has scored this season.
In other batting news, Cody Stoll was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Cash Antony was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Canby pushed their record up to 5-6-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for MACCRAY, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Everything went MACCRAY's way against Canby when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as MACCRAY made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
