The Winn Mavericks fell victim to the Southside Cardinals''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Cardinals 41-0. Winn's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Leading Southside to victory were Cayden Keeth and Jeremy Obregon. Keeth threw for 158 yards and three touchdowns, while Obregon picked up 101 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Winn's defeat was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.6 points per game. As for Southside, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.
Winn does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Southside will take on Victoria West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Victoria West knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Southside likes a good challenge.
