Wewahitchka hasn't had much luck against Cottondale recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wewahitchka Gators will head out to take on the Cottondale Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Wewahitchka is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season.
Wewahitchka is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They took a blow against Port St. Joe, falling 65-25. The Gators were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-8.
The losing side was boosted by Bryce Ethridge, who posted four points and eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cottondale, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They came out on top against Sneads by a score of 53-41 last Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Hornets as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Cottondale's win came from a few key players Wewahitchka will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cameron Odom, who went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points in addition to six assists and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Tramond Collins was another key player, going 7 for 10 on his way to 16 points and five boards.
Cottondale was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sneads only racked up seven assists.
Wewahitchka's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Cottondale, their record now sits at 10-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wewahitchka has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 29.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Cottondale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Wewahitchka ended up a good deal behind Cottondale when the teams last played back in December of 2024, losing 75-61. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cottondale's Trashonn Collins, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten steals. Now that Wewahitchka knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
