After flying high against the Fleming Wildcats last Tuesday, the Akron Rams came back down to earth. Akron ended up on the wrong side of a tough 55-31 walloping at the hands of Perkins County on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Akron has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Akron lost, one person who can't be blamed is Caleb Poss. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. Poss also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Anderson Filla was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Akron's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Perkins County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.
Akron won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Merino at 4:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Merino presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Akron in Colorado (Merino is ranked 41st, while Akron is ranked 177th). As for Perkins County, they will be playing at home against Bayard on Tuesday.
