On Wednesday, Lone Star was able to grind out a solid victory over The Colony, taking the game 6-3. The win continues a trend for the Rangers in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.
BellaLucia Cantu spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Brooke Wooten and Serenity Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Wooten went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Smith went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits Smith has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Alex, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Lone Star hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 6-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Newman Smith fell victim to Creekview and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 13-0 to the Mustangs.
Newman Smith saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bianca Baity, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Lone Star's victory bumped their record up to 11-7-1. As for Newman Smith, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.
Newman Smith's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lone Star has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. It's a different story for Newman Smith, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Lone Star's hitters?
Lone Star took their win against Newman Smith in their previous matchup on March 5th by a conclusive 17-0. Will Lone Star repeat their success, or does Newman Smith has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
