The Moorpark Musketeers will take on the Kennedy Cougars in a tournament on Saturday. Moorpark will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Moorpark had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Oak Park on Thursday. The Musketeers were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Eagles. With that win, the Musketeers brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Kiley Finnerty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits. Those hits were her first of the season.

At the plate, Moorpark got a massive performance out of Sydney Burckhard, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-6. Those two home runs gave Burckhard a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathalie Hernandez, who went 4-for-5 with one home run and six RBI.
Burckhard wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Moorpark lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Kennedy won against West Ranch on Friday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Cougars walked away with a 10-6 victory over Cleveland. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Aubrie Rodriguez tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Leah Magallanes was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alina Ortiz, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.
Moorpark pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Kennedy, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Moorpark beat Kennedy 8-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Will the Musketeers repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
