Softball Recap: Hammond Bishop Noll's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After low-scoring totals in their previous five matchup, Hammond Bishop Noll brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They put the hurt on the Hammond Morton Governors with a sharp 11-1 victory on Monday. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by ten runs or more this season.

Madelynn (Maddie) Queen was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Queen was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daniella (Ella) Zvonar, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Aiyanna (Yani) Espinosa, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

With the win, Hammond Bishop Noll broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-9. As for Hammond Morton, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Hammond Bishop Noll will challenge Calumet New Tech at 4:30 p.m. on the 27th. As for Hammond Morton, they will welcome Griffith at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Governors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
