The Bradford Red Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Hickman County Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bradford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Bradford had taken Union City down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Red Devils lost 10-3 to the Golden Tornadoes. The Red Devils have struggled against the Golden Tornadoes recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Dylan Brauer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Hickman County entered their tilt with Fulton County on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They never let the Pilots get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won eight matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Hickman County also got a great performance from Grayson Clark as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Clark a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Witt Carter, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Hickman County is undefeated when Carter posts two or more runs, but 5-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brec Byassee, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Hickman County pushed their record up to 9-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Bradford, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bradford has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Hickman County struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bradford suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Hickman County when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
