Basketball Recap: Union City Takes a Loss

Union City lost against Rocky Grove back in December of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Union City Bears were beaten by the Rocky Grove Orioles 76-34. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 470th, while the Orioles are ranked 190th).

Rocky Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Schiffer Anderson led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine assists. What's more, Anderson also racked up six steals, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Landen Carter, who went 9 of 13 en route to 23 points and six rebounds.

Union City moved to 5-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Rocky Grove, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Union City will challenge Maplewood at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rocky Grove, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Commodore Perry at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Rocky Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.1 points per game this season.
