The North Hollywood Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Verbum Dei Jesuit.
Despite the defeat, North Hollywood saw an underclassman step up: Caymen Smith scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Ramos, who scored nine points.
Leading Verbum Dei Jesuit to victory were Harper Whitman and Reese Whitman. Whitman scored 20 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Whitman scored 27 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Whitman is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Curtis Simpson, who scored three points along with four steals.
North Hollywood has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
North Hollywood will look to defend their home court on Monday against South El Monte at 1:00 p.m. Hopefully South El Monte focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, Verbum Dei Jesuit and Bellflower will face off at 12:00 p.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
