The Willow Spring Storm will venture away from home to take on the Apex Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Willow Spring is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let South Garner get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Storm have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Savannah Callis looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Abby Howard and Lynlee Ogburn did most of the damage at the plate: Howard went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Ogburn scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Howard is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Jaiden Baker also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Willow Spring always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .741. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Apex, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They blew past Cary 15-2 on Thursday. That looming 15-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.
The team relied heavily on Leah Kendall, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Blakely Sellers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Willow Spring is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Apex's record is now 4-2.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Willow Spring hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .420. However, it's not like Apex struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Willow Spring came out on top in a nail-biter against Apex when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Willow Spring since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
