If the Stargate School Eagles were riding high off their 73-24 takedown of the Bruce Randolph Grizzlies on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Stargate School was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 64-63 to Thornton. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Stargate School lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hunter Roark, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Roark is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Dylan Perkins was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Stargate School were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thornton only pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Adrian Armendariz was his usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with five assists and five rebounds for Thornton. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Andrew Danso, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Stargate School's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Thornton, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Stargate School won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Liberty Common at 2:00 p.m. on December 9th. Liberty Common will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while Stargate School is ranked 97th). Thornton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Fort Lupton at 8:00 p.m. on December 9th. Fort Lupton has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 286 points over their last four games.
