The Moapa Valley Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 78-35 win over Boulder City on the road. Moapa Valley's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Moapa Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savanna Burt led the charge by scoring 13 points along with seven assists and three steals. Burt set a new season high mark in blocks with two. The team also got some help courtesy of Haylie Western, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Boulder City still got an impressive performance from Julia Carmichael, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Carmichael scored a full 25.7% of Boulder City's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Martorano, who scored six points.
Moapa Valley's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Boulder City, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Moapa Valley will take on Cristo Rey St. Viator at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cristo Rey St. Viator will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Moapa Valley is ranked tenth). As for Boulder City, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on The Meadows School at 5:00 p.m. on January 8th.
