After two games on the road, Waterbury Career Academy is heading back home. They will take on The Derby Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Derby took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Waterbury Career Academy, who comes in off a win.
Last Saturday, Waterbury Career Academy didn't have too much trouble with St. Paul Catholic on the road as they won 38-22.
D'vonte Lane had a dynamite game for Waterbury Career Academy, rushing for 181 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekheem Ambursley, who rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Derby had to suffer through a rough 58-7 loss at the hands of Ansonia. While losing is never fun, Derby can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Ansonia is ranked 22nd).
Waterbury Career Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Derby, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Waterbury Career Academy against Derby in their previous meeting back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 55-12 win. Will Waterbury Career Academy repeat their success, or does Derby have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
