Woodsboro is 1-9 against Kenedy since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Eagles will head out to take on the Lions at 6:30 p.m.
Woodsboro couldn't beat Yorktown on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Eagles fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 8-7.
Jordan Vega put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Vega was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Brayden Gray was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Kenedy and Pettus had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Lions blew past the Eagles 15-6 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Woodsboro, Kenedy also got a great game from a two-way player: Izaiah Maldonado. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Maldonado has posted since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other pitching news, Ryder Hartsfield looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Kenedy let Aaron Lopez and Logan White run wild. Lopez went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while White got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave Lopez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jarren Cantu, who went 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Kenedy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Kenedy's record now sits at 12-8. As for Woodsboro, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.
Woodsboro suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Kenedy when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
