DeMatha has gone 9-1 against Our Lady of Good Counsel recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Stags will host the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. DeMatha is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
DeMatha will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against The Heights on Thursday. The Stags blew past The Heights 11-1. Considering the Stags have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Gabriel Chapman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Johnathan Coombs was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooks Franklin, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Our Lady of Good Counsel didn't have quite enough to beat Bishop O'Connell on Monday and fell 4-3.
Curtis Griggs was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since April 1st.
On the hitting side, Jack Morin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Ryan Noll was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
DeMatha is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-10 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. DeMatha has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Our Lady of Good Counsel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
