Murray hasn't had much luck against Lyon County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Lyons at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.
Murray blew Carlisle County out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Saturday Carlisle County got their revenge. The Tigers fell just short of the Comets by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since April 15th.
Asa Munsey was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Munsey wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cody Garner, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Lyon County couldn't beat Apollo on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Lyons fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 6-4. That makes it the first time this season the Lyons have let down their home crowd.
Korben Lucas made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run. Another player making a difference was Eli Baker, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Murray now has a losing record of 13-14. As for Lyon County, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 16-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Murray has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lyon County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Murray came up short against Lyon County when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 4-1. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
