The Fike Demons waltzed into their matchup on Friday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They blew past East Wake 54-30. Given Fike's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while East Wake is ranked 495th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jewel Brewington, who scored 15 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. It was the first time this season that she posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Emory Skinner, who scored nine points.
Despite the loss, East Wake still got an impressive performance from Alani Butler, who scored 14 points. Erica Rawlings was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 12 rebounds.
Fike pushed their record up to 17-3 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points per game. As for East Wake, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.
Fike didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-4 win vs. Smithfield-Selma on the 12th. East Wake will be playing at home against South Johnston at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully East Wake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
