In what's become a running theme this season, the First Flight Nighthawks gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They blew past Camden County 51-24 at home. Given First Flight's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Camden County is ranked 458th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
First Flight found their leader in underclassman Maddy Beatson, who scored 15 points. Beatson hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Phanton, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Camden County still got an impressive performance from Amaya Demps, who scored seven points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Camden County struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as First Flight racked up 17 assists.
First Flight pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points per game. As for Camden County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. First Flight will face off against Hertford County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Camden County will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Northeastern at 5:30 p.m. on January 12th.
