WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight recap Oct. 23, 2012
North Allegheny extended the longest winning streak in WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight this week by beating Shaler Area, 55-7. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
North Allegheny led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Titans. Mack Leftwich threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
Forrest Barnes was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 206 yards on 27 carries as Seneca Valley lost to North Hills. Jon Dorogy also contributed to the rushing game with 51 yards on the ground.
Merhaut was the best wideout in WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight this week as the Rams lost to the Indians. Merhaut racked up six receptions for 87 yards. Collin Jackson helped Pine-Richland's passing attack out by catching one ball for seven yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Leftwich of Art Walker's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1480. He has also thrown 18 touchdowns. On the ground, the Raiders' Barnes has rushed for 1179 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Merhaut. The Pine-Richland star has 45 catches for 585 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Tigers take on North Hills. As it stands, North Allegheny is in first, while Jack McCurry's team is in third.
