Basketball Recap: Lanett Beats Opelika for Their Third Straight Victory

Lanett won the last time they faced Opelika and things went their way on Monday too. The Lanett Panthers walked away with a 48-35 victory over the Opelika Bulldogs. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Lanett's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makayla Davis, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points and three steals. Those 11 points gave Davis a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylin White, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Lanett smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Lanett is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Opelika, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lanett will take on Midfield in a holiday battle at at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Midfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season. As for Opelika, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against LaFayette at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Opelika is facing LaFayette at the right time seeing as LaFayette is stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
