The Valdosta Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lowndes. Valdosta has struggled against Lowndes recently, as their match on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Valdosta's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nadia Gardner, who scored 17 points along with five steals. That was a full 36.2% of Valdosta's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Chasity Degale was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Valdosta struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Lowndes was led to victory by Kaci Demps and Kayla Jackson. Demps scored 19 points along with two steals, while Jackson dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Demps has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kimora Wade, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Valdosta's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Lowndes, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Valdosta will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Colquitt County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lowndes' road trip will continue as they head out to face Baldwin at 10:00 a.m. on January 15th. Baldwin has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 608 points over their last nine games.
