The Washington County Panthers are still undefeated this season after their match against the Bertie Falcons on Friday, but the Bertie Falcons came as close as anyone has to beating them. Washington County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-42 win over Bertie. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Washington County has scored all year.
Brandon Carter Jr. continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Carter Jr. is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Amari Chesson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Bertie's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Zymiere Dempsey, who scored 17 points along with five steals, and Tequan Holley who scored nine points along with five blocks and two steals. Dempsey is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Tayvien Ward, who scored seven points.
Washington County's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-0. As for Bertie, their loss dropped their record down to 12-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington County will take on Tarboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bertie won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hertford County at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hertford County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 65.5 points per game.
